BRZ Intake Design and Proving... Part 1

In our world, intakes are not all created equal. Intakes generally require an ECU retune to compensate for the change in airflow readings. This is because intake manufacturers can use a variety of different style MAF flanges, tubing sizes, and even bends before and after the MAF sensor can all create different readings for the ECU. These readings can affect how the car runs in all conditions, but most importantly under full throttle. An intake can cause a dangerously lean [...Continue Reading...]

07+ Cooper S Intake System Design

Cold Air Intake System Design and Testing Our intake system started out simple using a combination of silicon steel and some other sheet metal parts.  In dealing with other cars with MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensors we knew it was important to keep diameters and orientation of the sensor similar to stock.  Looking to make the intake the best we could, and knowing customers would be wanting a true cold air intake we starting working toward that goal. But we [...Continue Reading...]

Foam Filter Q&A, why they are the best.

Everyone has an air filter on their engine (at least you should!) and this goes true for all types of things that that suck in air constantly.  Yes even you have a filter; your nose has them built into it as does your air passageway.  But we are talking about your car here which sucks in way more air than you do, so it has much more special filtering needs.  Also we are talking about a filter for your performance [...Continue Reading...]

EVO 9 Complete Intake Test and Tune

PERRIN EVO 9 Intake Test and Tune We have been selling our EVO intakes for quite some time now and while we have proven they do not screw up the MAF readings we never did dyno test it.  In the past we had to go to someone elses dyno to test things and in the past this item wasn’t on the top of our list to prove. Times changed, we have our own dyno, we have time to do [...Continue Reading...]

2008 WRX Sedan Stage 2 & 3 Dyno Tuning and Intake!

We left our rather boring but tuned 08 WRX much faster than it started out but it was dying to get more power.  While we were the first to tune the 08 WRX using an AP (not to mention first to tune an 08 WRX period with the Hydra) it was early enough in our development that we didn’t have an exhaust to install and do further tuning.   Now we do and now was a good time to show off [...Continue Reading...]

R53 GP Test and Tune of the JCW Exhaust and Intake

We€™re at it again proving more ALTA PARTS!  One question we always wanted to answer was €œDo the ALTA parts make more HP than the JCW parts?€.  We get asked this a lot as customers are torn between parts they can get at the dealer, and aftermarket parts from us.  Our selling points used to revolve around the prices of JCW parts vs. ALTA.  Now we have another angle!  We can now say ALTA parts WILL make more power than [...Continue Reading...]

08 STI Intake Test and Tune

This test was done on our 08 STI shop car.  Before we get to far into the fun stuff, the STI is in our Stage 2 form. This means it has our twin cat downpipe, 3€ quad tip exhaust, and our Stage 2 AccessPORT tuning.  With that said we are going to show 2 tests in this article one, the PERRIN 08 intake and the PERRIN  Version 2 inlet hose. First lets explain the dyno and testing methods we are [...Continue Reading...]
